The water company PWN has opened its new headquarters in Velserbroek after an extensive renovation and expansion. A new light-filled, transparent atrium at the heart of the building serves as a showpiece for the water company. The atrium links the building’s constructional elements and promotes communication between departments. The interior has undergone a thorough facelift, and the front windows have been renovated and better insulated. Finally, a new system stores thermal energy in the ground, while climate-control ceilings cool the building.
In the design for the renovation and expansion, a new central heart connects the various building sections. This heart is a transparent and light atrium, a new calling card for the organization. The atrium also promotes communication between the departments. The facade facades have been renovated and better insulated.
The interior has been completely renewed. The new design is based on a non-place-based work concept. Communication stairs and voids have improved the interrelationships between departments.
In the identity of PWN, the water theme plays a crucial role; after all, the company's main task is to provide clean drinking water. This is expressed in the use of clear and transparent materials, but above all by the water feature near the building, which brings in light by means of reflections.
