Volkskrant building in de Volkskrant

"The building is money as a late icon of the New Building: tight, modern, transparent, or, as Herman Kraaijvanger said at the time: open and honest as the Volkskrant itself." Karolien Knols wrote this in the Volkskrant of Friday 28 February about the Volkskrant building following the death of Chris Knol. The Volkskrant building at the Wibaut state designed Chris Knol together with Herman and Evert Kraaijvanger, the founders of the bureau. "No newspaper in the Netherlands with such great prospects as De Volkskrant," De Groene Amsterdammer wrote at the delivery in 1965. "And back views and side views." Knols writes: "The appearance referred to the newspaper in all possible ways: just like the front page it was built on seven columns, with at the top a man-sized head: the Volkskrant logo." "The facade was equipped with one and a half million tiles, the same number as the letters in the newspaper, in a color whiter than the white newspaper.Through those tiles the building thanked one of its nicknames: The White House."
