The Volkskrant building at the Wibaut state designed Chris Knol together with Herman and Evert Kraaijvanger, the founders of the bureau. "No newspaper in the Netherlands with such great prospects as De Volkskrant," De Groene Amsterdammer wrote at the delivery in 1965. "And back views and side views." Knols writes: "The appearance referred to the newspaper in all possible ways: just like the front page it was built on seven columns, with at the top a man-sized head: the Volkskrant logo." "The facade was equipped with one and a half million tiles, the same number as the letters in the newspaper, in a color whiter than the white newspaper.Through those tiles the building thanked one of its nicknames: The White House."
