The heat generated by a swinging crowd will soon heat buildings in Hart van Zuid Rotterdam via a thermal grid in the 'RUGGEDISED' project. Ahoy also gets the largest sunroof in Rotterdam.

The renewed Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Center (RACC), designed by Kraaijvanger, will open its doors in 2020. The RACC houses experiences in exhibition halls, music hall, international conference center and entrance building with break out rooms and RTM Stage. Rotterdam Ahoy is taking a huge step towards making energy consumption more sustainable with RUGGEDISED. The first measures contribute to a reduction of 1,422 tons of CO2.

The construction of the smart thermal grid in and around Rotterdam Ahoy is part of the RUGGEDISED project, which is supported by the European Commission. The participants Eneco, Rotterdam Ahoy, the municipality of Rotterdam and the construction consortium Ballast-Nedam / Heijmans committed themselves to this project by signing an agreement during Rotterdam Real Estate on 28 November 2018. The 13 projects within 'RUGGEDISED' are all applied within the Hart van Zuid Rotterdam project area. Involvement Kraaijvanger at Rotterdam Ahoy and Hart van Zuid Kraaijvanger is as supervisor of the Masterplan and as architect involved in the (re) construction of this special piece of city and complex area development Hart van Zuid Rotterdam. Kraaijvanger is within Masterplan Hart van Zuid, responsible for the design of, among other things, the recently completed Rotterdam Swimming Center, the OV-Node and the renovation and the new construction of Rotterdam Ahoy. Rotterdam South will receive an enormous positive impulse in the coming years. Through new construction and renovation, the district will be transformed into a vital district where people like to come and stay.
