Kraaijvanger has signed the Manifest of Circular Architecture

16.01.2018

Kraaijvanger has signed the manifest of circular architecture today. This way they have supported their ambition for circular construction, wherein a building supplies energy, where it purifies air and water, wherein it provides room for biodiversity and wherein no waste is produced. ‘’Kraaijvanger Architects design their circular buildings passionately, and those buildings provide a better and brighter future and they add value. Who is willing to take this challenge with us?’’

We design circular buildings by means of as many healthy and reusable materials. The utilized cycles in the buildings such as water, materials, food, energy and air, are as consecutive as possible. Our ambition for every project is: 100% cradle to cradle and energy- generation.

The first initiative Kraaijvanger took in circular construction was back in 1994 with the design of Ecotopia. The realization of city hall Venlo meant an immense head start forward in our ideal of circular building. Venlo was the first region in the world to embrace the cradle to cradle principle. In April 2017 the circular city hall of Venlo won the American architecture price ‘’Architzer A+ Awards’’.

The Manifest of Circular Architecture, that is drawn up in collaboration with BNA, describes five design principles that contribute to a circular economy. These are starting points for the design as well as for conversations with clients, executing construction parties and the supplying parties. Because circular building is done together.

The five design principles are:

  1. The starting point for circular architecture is a circular business model.
  2. Nature is a crucial source of inspiration and a classical example of circularity.
  3. The constructions are adjustable and flexible throughout the whole lifecycle.
  4. The construction and its components can easily be (dis)assembled and constructed.
  5. The building materials are of high grade quality, they are not toxic and they are easily reusable.

The signature of this circular manifest took place at the start of the week of circular economy 2018 (15 till 19 January 2018).
