11.07.2019

On Friday, June 28, the last part of the new building for Van Gelder fruit & vegetables, the Experience Center, was delivered to Gerrit van Gelder, general manager of Van Gelder by contractor Wijnen Bouw.

For Van Gelder fruit & vegetables, Kraaijvanger Architects designed the new building as a compact, sustainable BREEAM design for an automated distribution hall with offices, Experience Center with greenhouse and tasting kitchen in Ridderkerk, the Netherlands.

On the ground floor, in the large white hall behind the Experience Center, logistics transport systems expert Vanderlande will continue to work hard on the almost fully automated warehouse in the coming months. The Experience Center will be completed in the coming period so that it can be used by the end of 2019. Think of the meeting rooms i.s.m. suppliers, the demo kitchen and the Plant Production Units of PlantLab.

Sustainable showcase for the fruit and vegetable sector
Van Gelder's new building will be a showcase in several respects. First, it shows how logistic processes can be carried out extremely sustainably. In the building, more than 95% of all materials are certified and score the maximum BREEAM score on MAT 5 with an extremely sustainable circular material choice. The design according to the International BREEAM Awards is also among the 6 best designs of BREEAM in 2018 in the world. The building is, in addition to housing a super-efficient production process, fully equipped to make the innovations of this process visible.
