Steigerse Kerk

The Sint Domincuskerk - Het Steiger- church is located on the Hang in the center of Rotterdam. The 1960 reconstruction monument, designed by Kraaijvanger Architects, has been a National Monument since 2013. A still crucial building in Kraaijvanger's oeuvre.

St. Dominic’s or Steiger’s Church was intended as a place of silence and reflection in the busy city center. To this end, the day church, a separate, self-contained space, served primarily. The day church is located at right angles to the main altar, which faces the large church hall for Sunday service with 560 seats. This is accessed through the main entrance at the elevated church square. Between the two church halls is a courtyard with a cloister. The cloister serves as a processional corridor and as a walkway for visitors. The courtyard is designed as a stone garden with greenbelts and a hexagonal baptistery.

The church had to invite "a quarter to God" or reflection and prayer after a long day of work. A future-proof building that should stand the test of time
