Canisius College

A modern, flexible learning environment where students feel at home in a monumental building where generations have spent their secondary school. This is what Kraaijvanger designed for Canisius College, Nijmegen.

The existing historic brick building is completely renovated and expanded. The new wing presents itself as a quirky extension of the current stately building. Kraaijvanger choose details and materials that match the existing building.

The significance of the location is enhanced by the presence of the remains of a Roman fort expressed in the landscape design. This way, students can flirt in the sacrificial pavilion and the scale of the alloy barracks can be recognized in the seating area.
