Renovation City hall Maassluis police post

Maassluis

Kraaijvanger Architects has made a design for the municipality of Maassluis for the renovation of the northwest wing of the municipal office where until recently the social service was housed. In this renovated wing, a police post and a part of the Public Order, District Administration and Supervision Department are housed In addition to a renovated interior, the new police post has also received an upgrade in terms of functionality, acoustics and appearance. Reuse is the starting point here. The new layout is aligned with the existing floor plan, so that minimum installation technical adjustments were necessary. Floor, walls and ceiling are demolished, repaired or renewed where necessary. The 24/7 area has a higher level of finishing with robust and visually determined customization, supplemented with new collection furniture.

During the week this is the heart of the work wing, and every day of the week the face of the police post to the citizen. The current facility core has been redesigned while maintaining as many connection points as possible. The sanitary rooms, or the 'washing line', are part of the 24/7 area. In the design inside and outside, the blue of the police station and the blue of the sanitary rooms come together and form an identity determining element. The existing skylights above the new pantry and in the shower are complemented by 2 solo tubs in the dressing room The space for lunch, coffee, informal consultation and shorter customer contact is available for the car wash: 'the meeting place'.

Also briefings with a less closed character take place here. The meeting place remains accessible outside office hours. This space is the face of the robust police station against the background of the car wash. There is no traditional bar: the strategically placed high table makes possible different scenarios for approaching customers, colleagues or suspects. The meeting place is set up with a waiting seat, a high table for standing consultation and short administrative work. Office supplies, printers and the like come in a repro wall unit. On the other hand there is a closed interview room that can also be used for concentrated work meetings with visitors.

In addition, there is also a day and night accessible 3D declaration desk directly on the front portal. Via a live video connection there is always a possibility to make a declaration, so the citizen can always report his or her home or workplace nearby.
