December 17th 2025 marked the official start of the transformation of Zuidplein Station: a special project for an iconic location in Rotterdam South. A place that not only functions as a transport hub, but will soon also connect, invite and offer space to stay and experience.
The design embraces and reinforces the modernist ideas of Ir. C. Veerling. By bringing light, transparency and clear routing back into the station hall, the space will regain its essence as the welcoming entrance to the heart of Rotterdam South.

With large glass façades and an open structure, the station combines the logic of mobility with a spatial experience. The distinctive angled roof shapes and clear horizontal lines give the building an expressive and timeless identity within the city.
The renovation prepares Zuidplein Station for the future. It will feature the largest bicycle parking facility in Rotterdam South, with space for almost 1,000 bicycles, supplemented by commercial units and improved urban connections that anchor the station more firmly in its surroundings.

This milestone is the result of intensive collaboration between the Municipality of Rotterdam, RET, Heijmans and the Rotterdam The Hague Metropolitan Region (MRDH). A partnership that has led to a shared vision and a widely supported design. Together, we are building a station that not only functions, but also facilitates light, encounters and connections.
