The Hub for asylum seekers

04.05.2016

The growing influx of asylum seekers is currently the most important political issue. Meanwhile it is also on the table as a design assignment.
In ArchitectuurNLthere is an extensive article about the problem surrounding the housing of asylum seekers, in which the Hub by Kraaijvanger Architects is also presented as an example of possible solutions. One of the prangede issues regarding the accommodation of asylum seekers is the lack of affordable housing in the Netherlands. According to BNA chairman Nathalie de Vries, this is a political problem. However, the Netherlands is also struggling with a surplus of empty offices.
The Hub offers a solution for this. The Hub is a unit in which all comfort carriers for a home are accommodated. This unit is easy to install in empty offices and provides air ventilation, hot water and heating. This brings the building-bound investments to a minimum. In addition, the article talks a lot about how you as a designer can create a home for asylum seekers. It is not only important that these people get a roof over their heads. We also need to look at the environment in which asylum seekers end up.

I see and I remember.
I do and I understand."
