There are currently one billion cars in the world. It is estimated that this number will double in the next few years. Every car uses approximately 2.5 parking spaces: one at home, one at the workplace, and one at the shopping or sport centre. This has a significant impact on the need for parking space. At the same time it is highly likely that we will be using self-driving cars in a few decades. According to research conducted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), this could lead to a decrease in the total amount of cars in the cities by 65%.

MPCFlexParking has - in association with Prana Consult, parking consultants and Kraaijvanger Architects - anticipated these two trends by introducing a scalable and mobile multi-storey car park. Through the use of aluminium it is constructed faster and it is more flexible and sustainable than all current building systems using concrete and/or steel. Never before could aluminium be used in this way. But because of the special coating adopted from the offshore industry, the construction is just as fire-resistant as more traditional building materials.

The demountable and lightweight nature of the parking system of MPCFlexParking has many advantages. Multi-storey car parks can be easily extended or moved. This also makes this system incredibly well-suited for temporary placement at large-scale events such as the Olympic Games or the World’s Fair. Thanks to its specific weight, the multi-storey car park can be placed on top of existing buildings or other covered car parks. For car parks of only a few parking-levels, foundations are unnecessary. If required, the MPCFlexParking system of four layers can be built on floating pontoons.

If a multi-storey car park has become superfluous, the construction can be used for other purposes such as student accommodation, shops, and offices. Combined use is easily achieved. If re-use is not an option, the construction can be melted down to its original raw material. Considering the relatively steady raw material price of aluminium, its residual value is guaranteed.
