How to design The Vital City?

Hans Goverde will give an architecture lecture on Tuesday March 19 on "How to design The Vital City?"
The city is alive. It is an ever-changing setting for us, the human being. It gives us freedom and brings us into contact. The city is our identity, shows us the history and looks ahead to what it will be like. People change and the city changes with it.
We want people to work happier, live and learn. That is the goal. Designers create spaces for that. In addition, we handle our stocks with care by designing and building in a circular fashion. Like our Cradle-to-Cradle design for Stadskantoor Venlo.
Architecture and urban design have an effect in the longer term and support the vitality of a city by creating, organizing and inspiring the right conditions. Different people, functions, places and buildings exist close together. Good designs have the resilience to accommodate the diversity of constantly changing needs and activities. With sustainability, beauty, social contact, meaning and identity as important factors. How do you make the Vital City?

Hans Goverde is partner architect of Kraaijvanger Architects. The ideal of Kraaijvanger is a building that supplies energy, purifies air and water, offers space for biodiversity and produces no waste. His most controversial recent work is the Venlo Municipal Office, a Cradle2Cradle design that focuses on the health of users and the environment. Current projects are Woongebouw De Binck, , Spieghelstraat Alkmaar and Lapis Lazuli Heerhugowaard. Hans is also supervisor of the Hart van Zuid Rotterdam area transformation.

His architecture is characterized by an eye for the human scale within a large-scale - often inner-city - context. As a partner of Kraaijvanger Architects, Hans Goverde focuses on complex inner-city tasks, multifunctional buildings and integrated design processes.

The lecture is organized by the Architectuur Informatiecentrum Alkmaar and takes place in the Pleinzaal of TAQA Theatre De Vest in Alkmaar.
