On Friday the 15th of March 2019 building started on the transformation on the station square and Stationsweg, and the new underground bicycle parking, that will hold 5.475 bicycles. The province of Overijssel stays updated on the building of Station Zwolle and its new bicycle parking.

With financial support from the province of Overijssel and ProRail -on behalf of the ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management- the municipality of Zwolle is building an underground bicycle parking underneath the North station square. This new bicycle parking was commisioned by the municpality of Zwolle and exploited by the NS [Dutch Railways].

Climate, energy transaition and CO2-reducation will remain important themes for Zwolle in the next few years. When developing the city of Zwolle, the municipality together with their partners implement measures to ensure the aforementioned themes will be realized. Naturally, this fits perfectly with Kraaijvanger Architects; we are proud to call circular building one of our expertises.

Part of the new plan is the overhaul of the North station square to create a pleasant space with a green appearance. The Stationsweg will be modified to a recognizable, hospitable city entrance that will lead visitors from the station to the city centre.

"Most of all, we are excited to start the building of this beautiful project. The next few months we will prepare the terrain for the realization of the circular cofferdam. Think shifting the sewerage and moving or removing the light posts. After this phase the building will intensify and the project will become more visible for the neighborhood. Naturally, we will inform the neighborhood about this in a timely manner," said Arno van Schaik, civil director at Boskalis Nederland.
