Circular living in the spieghelstraat in Alkmaar

02.07.2021

We designed a building and its surroundings in such a way that it actively contributes to creating a healthy and safe living environment for the residents and this on the basis of beng and circular construction. This will make the residents happy.

The complex of 44 sustainable rental apartments on the Spieghelstraat in Alkmaar was realized with Bouwgroep Dijkstra Draisma, Woonwaard and the municipality of Alkmaar. It is a cradle 2 cradle project and almost entirely energy-neutral (beng). This means that most of the products and materials used during construction can be infinitely reused in the future, are partly second-hand and not harmful to the environment. Thanks to solar panels that provide the apartments with electricity and connection to a heat network. Also, the apartments will not be connected to the gas network.

The circular themes (circular material use, high quality reuse, comfort and water) are reflected in the architecture in the way brick is used in the facades, diversity and social interaction is visible and where water buffering and greenery have a prominent place. In addition, we strive for diversity because, through clever design, we have managed to free up spaces for social interaction. This is in keeping with the way in which the Overdie district has, since its renewal, become a diverse, attractive and varied residential area where people want to stay and live.
