Station square West

Station Square (West) connects the large Jaarbeursplein square, Utrecht Central Station and the municipal offices. The public buildings can be accessed from a raised square, eight metres above ground level. The raised square turns into a wide staircase, connecting with the Jaarbeursplein square below. A bicycle parking area is housed under the square and staircase, providing storage space for 4,200 bicycles.

When the sun shines, the staircase is packed with people enjoying the weather. Especially for this purpose, in addition to escalators, lifts and platforms, three areas with benches have been built into the stairs. To make sure that sunshine penetrates down to the bicycle parking area, skylights have been incorporated into the square and the steps.
