The Orchards, Heemskerk (NL)

The proposal "The Orchards" is based on a scale that will suit with the village Heemskerk and with the original landscape again. We want Heemskerk and the Slotheerenbuurt to reconnect with her history, the landscape and bring in the scale and the typology of a village. In our proposal, we return the old environmental scale with the typical gardens lined with hedges, by introducing a pattern of hedges and paths. Within this small apartment buildings with (collective) gardens and family housing. Informal paths will swing through the orchards and hedges. Besides the green characteristic containing gardens with hedges, a blue characteristic is created along the G. v. Assendelftstraat, with islands in the water.
