The bicycle garage De Snelbinder is the first project in a series of buildings that in the coming years will be realised in downtown Nieuwegein.
The contrasting materials of the parking refer to both the front and back identitiy of the location. The building is a reflection of its surrounding solidified in time. The colored facade of perforated metal makes it a robust, light-absorbing volume.
The white section in the façade lights up the entrance and the public space in front. The expanded metal is used in such way that the garage from the outside appears to be a massive volume; the inside however is light and transparant. The compact volume can accommodate nearly 400 bikes. The parking also contains a repair shop, lockers and a small seating area.
